LUZERNE — Leonard F. Zera, 87, a lifelong resident of Luzerne, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born April 12, 1930, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Stoshick Zera. Leonard attended Luzerne High School and was a retired roofer. He worked for E. W. Roberts Sons Inc. and was a member of the Union of Roofers Local 30. He was recognized by the United Union of Roofers for 55 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.
Leonard was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Affectionately known as "Pop," he was the heart and soul of our family. He enjoyed attending all of the grandchildren's sporting events, and hosting the family holiday gatherings. He was an animal lover and an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Joseph Zera; and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Alles.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Susan Havach; daughters, Marlene Alles, of Forty Fort; Susan Seitz and husband, Robert, of Swoyersville; son, Leonard Zera and wife, Diane, of Yatesville; grandchildren, Karen Smith, George Alles IV, Matthew Zera, and Emily Zera; and great-granddaughter, Kayla Lynn Smith.
Family and friends may call at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.

Dear Len, I am very sorry to read of your dad's passing. I remember meeting him and seeing him at Matt's games.
