Katherine Simmons Obituary

Katherine "Kay" Simmons

Ripon - Katherine "Kay" Kohl Simmons, age 94, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Whispering Pines (formerly Fountain View Care Center) in Ripon.

Kay was born in Ripon on August 24, 1923, the daughter of Ceylon and Mildred (Weekes) Kohl. She graduated from Ripon High School, and then Ripon College in 1945. After graduation, Kay was a social worker working in Cleveland, OH, aiding and caring for the family needs of children. On May 28, 1949, she married Robert H. Simmons. Mother of three children, she later worked as the office assistant for Dr. Robert Meyer for many years. The Simmons' enjoyed their farmette at the outskirts of Ripon, with horses, pets, gardening, and getaways to her parent's fishing camp on the Mecan River. Bob and Kay retired to "Camp Dakota," doing wood carving as their hobby and enjoying camp bonfires, the country, and keeping close to nature and wildlife. Kay was a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ripon. Her friends and relatives were important to her. She was religious about staying in touch. She always had a listening ear and a soft heart. Kay will forever be in our hearts, along with family memories of tranquility along the bubbling water flow of the Mecan.

Kay is survived by her children, Allen (Kathy) Simmons of Pensacola, FL, Susan (Philip) Manthei of Ripon, and Janet (Steve Krueger) Simmons of Ripon, WI; three grandchildren, Harley (Jen) Simmons of MT, Jeneen (Scott) Piedalue of MT, and Steven (Jackie) Manthei of Ripon, WI; great-grandchildren, Corbin and Cali Simmons, Chase and Levi Piedalue of MT, and Robert and Kristin Manthei of Ripon, WI. She is further survived by nieces, Judith Kessler, Jean Kissack, Katherine Scheid and Shirley (Don) Willis; nephews, David (Wanda) Hildebrandt, Jerry (Donna) Hildebrandt; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Ceylon and Mildred; her husband, Bob; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ramona (Alex) Kessler and Ruth (Myron) Scheid.

A visitation and Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Katherine Kohl Simmons will take place at a later date, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with Reverend Marcus Cunningham officiating. A memorial is being established.
