WILKES-BARRE — Barbara Virginia (Hogan) Hyman, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Redbank, N.J., on Jan. 28, 1933, she was the first of 10 children of the late John H. and Grace C. Green Hogan.

After the family moved to Tunkhannock, and then Lake Carey, Barb graduated from Tunkhannock High School. She worked for Bell Telephone in Wilkes-Barre until her marriage on Jan. 11, 1957. Barbara was devoted to her family and friends. In the past 20 years, she was a constant in the life of her only grandchild, and apple of her eye, Ashleigh Grace.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 39 years, she was preceded in death by brothers, John C., Robert, Edward, Samuel and David and sister, Karen Hogan.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Mary Ruth Schwartz, of Dallas, and Kathy Zeller and husband, Steve, of Dallas; granddaughter, Ashleigh Schwartz; brothers, Gerald A. Hogan, with whom she resided, Richard A. Hogan and wife, Karen, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Kenneth Hogan, of Tunkhannock; numerous nieces and nephews and her dearest friend of 60 years, Marie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Wilkes-Barre. Officiating will be Pastor Carol Folk. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Fund, 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, the staff on 5 West at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, and Dr. Loren Mangino and staff for their unending help and compassion.

Mary Ruth, Kathy, Gerald, Kenny and Richard and Ashleigh, my heart is heavy and saddened at the loss of your Mother and Sister.
The Hogan family has been in my life since I was a small child and I hold all the treasured memories close to heart. You all are so much more to me than friends you are family. Barb and Harry were very special people and now they are together for eternity. I cannot be there with you in person but I am there with you in heart.

Having worked with Harry and Barb during my time at St. John's Lutheran Church from 1992 - 1999, I was always impressed by their care for each family. She now joins Harry in peace and in the arms of God.

As pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre from 1988-2002, I worked often with the Hymans at Kniffen's. Their personal graciousness and professional manner was always appreciated by all they served. Barbara now joins Harry in the bliss of a blessed afterlife and may their memory be honored always.
