Tom Marlin Greene
Brentwood, TN - Tom Marlin Greene, 81, of Brentwood, died Feb. 6, 2018.
He was born May 29, 1936, in Wetumpka, AL, the son of Walter Marlin Greene and Tommie Cotton Greene. He grew up in nearby Eclectic, AL, and attended Elmore County High School. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958 and attained the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in Germany with the 97th Signal Battalion. He graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, and for most of his career was an insurance claims manager with St. Paul Insurance Co., where he retired. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church in Franklin, TN.
Tom loved to sit on his screened-in porch talking with his wife and family, regaling everyone with stories of his childhood in rural Alabama and escapades in the Army. He never failed to express his love for the people he knew. And he was a great dancer.
Survivors include his wife, Fran Watson Greene; his daughters, Nora Kate Greene Smith (Chris) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Ellen Greene Mangold (Michael) of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Timothy, Margaret and Lillian Smith of Clarksville, and William and Olivia Mangold of Thompson's Station; and a sister, Eleanor Hemmes (Mark) of Dallas, Texas.
The funeral Mass will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Franklin, TN, with Father Bala Showraiah officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 1 p.m. A reception will follow the Mass at the church. A private burial will be held at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

Tom and I car pooled during our time in the home office. What great memories I have from those few years. I could not imagine a better partner for those trips to and from the office

Thoughts and prayers are with family. As an older schoolmate at ELCOHI I likely shared some of the escapades he loved telling. A great guy.'

Tom was a great guy, a Southern Gentleman in the truest and best sense of the word. That man could tell a story and have the rest of the room in stitches. My fondest condolences to Fran and the rest of the family.

Remembering Tom as a former colleague at The St. Paul, and with the most pleasant of memories from the visits to the Nashville Service Center. May the memories carry Fran, the daughters, grandchildren and other family members through this time of grief.
"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him."
