Back around '67, or so, in freshman English, he challenged me to do better. I doubt he'd even remember doing so, but I still do. Sometimes, when thing get tough, I think of what he said. I have good memories of Mr Darnell because of that. Dave Splittgerber, '70, Grand Rapids MI

Connie and Family,
Sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. Seems like just the other day we were roommates at the "Pink Palace" in BG. Chuck was a great roommate and friend during those BGSU days and will be greatly missed as a teacher, coach, and family man

I had the pleasure of knowing Chuck-"Coach Darnell" through Golf when I competed against his Bowsher Rebels and guys like Barry Jones/Brian Jorris etc.in the late 70's. He was a fine gentleman who loved to compete, loved to laugh and was always supportive of the Toledo Jr. golfers. He'll be truly missed but, always remembered-Michael Dzienny

One of my favorite teachers. Not only did he make learning fun, but he took the time to know each and every one of us. He remembered me 15 years later when he came to paint my house, and retold a couple of funny anecdotes about our class (1970).
It was my privilege to have known him.

Connie Cherie and Corie, I am so sorry for your loss. I have nothing but fond memories of all of you, and spent many hours with all of you when you were little. Just remember time does not heal all wounds, it just makes it more bearable. Much love to all of you and know my thoughts and prayers are with you always.

I'm sad to find out earlier today, that Mr. Darnell has passed away.
He was my teacher, and our coach.
But what "I" knew him for, was his coaching me during a part of my life, and putting me on the right track.
Also with his help and some hard work,
I graduated a year early in 1975.
I moved back to Toledo recently, and he was on my list of people to visit. With much regret I failed.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I will always remember him as a great man.

My deepest sympathies at this time to all of you. Always know that Chuck was one of only two teachers that inspired me and gave me confidence. I believe I had him his first year teaching. He was so special. I gave him a painting I did in Mr. Ryan's art class. I think he kept it. I just wish I could have told him these things!! Bless you.
