RICHMOND - Mary Joan Rufo, age 79, formerly of State Road, Richmond, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017. She was born in Pittsfield on June 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Gino and Sadie D'Arcangelo Rufo. She was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mary Joan often spoke of how blessed she was to be able to make her home with her sister's family in Richmond for more than thirty years. She spent most of her faith-filled life attending her home church, Christian Assembly. She was a consistent source of encouragement for her family and friends. Mary Joan's support for her nieces and nephews as they were growing up was essential and will be eternally appreciated.
Mary Joan is survived by her sister, Teresa B. Rawson of Richmond; three nieces, Jennifer A. Rawson Szymanski and her husband, Vincent; Donna Rufo Ross and her husband, Jim; and Paula Rufo Papa and her husband, Jon; five nephews, Paul I. Rawson, Joseph G. Rawson, Richard D. Rufo and his wife, Karen, Victor Rufo and his wife, Karen, and Gregory Rufo; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Ivan Rawson; her niece, Lori Rufo Daly; and her two brothers, Gino Rufo and Richard Rufo.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be WEDNESDAY at 1:00 PM at the CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY CHURCH, 850 Williams Street with Rev. David McIntosh, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Donations may be made to the church in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
