Mary J. Rhoades, 69, of Brighton, passed away at her home on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, with her family by her side.
Born in Waukegan, Ill., on March 19, 1948, she was the daughter of James "Mac" and MaryAnn (nee Gabrovsek) McNeely. She spent her early life in Waukegan where she graduated from high school before going to Rockford College where she studied Practical Nursing and Cosmetology.

Kerry preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2005. Mary worked as a Cosmetologist, loved reading, and taught all of her grandchildren how to read prior to entering school. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, spending time at her home in Florida and was always quick to make new friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a fierce friend.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Joe) Bongratz, Cynthia (Mike) Kent, Rebecca Hiemstra and Mary (Hoss) Jager; grandchildren, Skylar and Reyna Poppe, Michael Kent, Sam and Jakob Hiemstra, Alex and Ella Bongratz and Cody and Abby Jager. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley (William) Patterson and Jamie (Charles) Weber along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to St. Francis Xavier Church or St. John's Catholic Church in Paris.
The family would like to thank Mary's nephew, Greg Weber, cousin, Jo Henke and best friend, Gail Sargent for their care and compassion during this time.
