Jim Dixon Obituary

Jim W. Dixon 1946—2018
Jim W. Dixon of Rockford, Illinois and Cape Coral, Florida, peacefully passed away at his Rockford home on Sunday, January 21, 2018. He was 71 years old. Jim was born March 27, 1946, in Rockford, IL to Flossie (Harper) and Clarence Dixon. Jim attended Rockford schools and in 1964 was a member of the first graduating class of Guilford High School. Jim was a leader for over 50 years in the Rockford real estate business, originally employed with Bliss Adelman Realty and later founded his agency and home building company, Jim Dixon Realtors, in 1979. Jim's company developed many residential subdivisions in Rockford, Cherry Valley, and Machesney Park. Jim's professional accomplishments included being named a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Circle in 1970, Illinois State Association of Real Estate Board's Million Dollar Club in 1973, as well as Realtor Emeritus of the Rockford Area Association of Realtors. Jim was active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford, the Board of Directors of First Bank, and was a former member of AMBUCS and Boone County Ducks Unlimited. Jim volunteered with the Rockford Noon Lions Club, always returning to Rockford to help with the annual Rose Day, and especially loved to help with the annual S.M. & S.F. Club Kick in For Cancer event. Jim's was an outdoor enthusiast, with a passion for fishing, especially in Northern Canada, on the Chippewa Flowage, Wisconsin, Lake Michigan, the Florida Keys, and the Gulf of Mexico. He loved hunting of all types and most recently enjoyed a very memorable elk hunting trip in Idaho. Jim is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Frank) Dixon-Davit and Kim Dixon; granddaughters, Anna Davit and Maggie Davit; special friends, Craig Shelton, Don Kinsman, Norm Royster and Jimmy Vitale; numerous nieces and nephews; and was especially close to his nephew, Dave (Cheryl) Dixon. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Dixon and Flossie Dixon Miller, stepfather, Paul Miller, and brothers, John Dixon and Robert Dixon. His family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice, especially Natalie and Dr. John Meyers for their kind care and understanding of Jim's unique sense of humor; special friend and caregiver, Annie Anthony for the love, care and support she not only showed Jim, but also to his family; and close friends, Craig, Don, Norm, and Yvonne, who were there at a moment's notice. The family also thanks the team of caring and compassionate women who took care of Jim, especially the last week of his life: Shelese, Sarah, and Cathy.
In lieu of a traditional funeral, his family invites friends to a celebration of Jim's life from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 24th, at Stone Eagle Tavern, 6445 E. State Street, Rockford. Memorial donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford or the S.M. & S.F. Club Kick in for Cancer Campaign would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Send online condolence at www.fitzgeraldfh.com

Condolences to the family.
Jim had sense of humor that not many got, and he was a delight to know. Sometimes a bit gruff, but always with a smile. I enjoyed working with him on transactions. You knew where you stood with him, for sure!
RIP.

I worked for Jim as my first job upon graduating from college. He taught me a great deal about business and the world in general, and I have thought of him often over the last twenty years. I feel extremely fortunate to have caught up with him last fall, not knowing that it would be the last time that I would see him. He was a great mentor and a great person, and he will be missed. My condolences to family and friends.

To say that Jim was a unique person, would be a vast understatement. There is not enough space here to start with any Jim Dixon stories, so I will cherish my personal memories of Jim's friendship and loyalty to friends and Family.
My sincere condolences to Jim's Family and may he RIP.
