I enjoyed having Mike as a substitute teacher during my years in Tamaqua High , and also as a friend. His knowledge of history is uncanny. Loved our many conversations about Foster's tunnel (my backyard) and the miners. Rest easy Mike, until we meet again..

Mike Havrischak stood out in a crowd. The one thing I will forever remember him for is his ability to be blunt with the truth, always sincere, always genuine.
His historical interest in the miners and their legacy is rooted in the reality that so often gets missed, even today; these industries that are built on the backs of men are too busy ignoring that there were real human stories with them all. Mike helped tell their stories and preserve their legacy.
He knew what life was all about.
His true age was a secret that was better protected than the nuclear launch codes, and it surprised so many of us to learn the truth; and yet it made so much sense at the same time. Mike stayed alive by being active, by being involved, by never winding down.
He will be remembered by many for that, and never forgotten by some of us.
Rest easy, Michael. The angels in heaven will enjoy your stories as much as some of us did here in this mortal life.

I worked with Mike for 6 years at the Michaels' warehouse near Hazleton-he was very knowledgeable about local coal mining history and shared that knowledge with those of us that sat at the lunch table with him. He will be missed, as he was interesting, and an asset to the workplace, as well as being a compassionate human being.
