Keating Patrick Obituary

MAJ. DAVID PATRICK KEATING Maj. David Patrick Keating, US Army (Retired), age 81 of Oak Island, NC, passed away on April 13, 2018. Maj. Keating was born January 24, 1937 in Boston, MA, the son of the late Daniel William Keating and Elizabeth McKenzie Keating. He retired from the US Army after serving 24 years. David served three years in Special Forces units in Vietnam. After leaving Special Forces, David completed flight school and served as a gun platoon leader. He was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts. Maj. Keating received the Silver Star for his heroic actions in which he saved another helicopter pilot by pulling him from his downed and burning helicopter. He was a member of the Special Forces Association, a member of Oak Island VFW Post 10226, the Retired Officers Association, and the Oak Island Moose Lodge. Maj. Keating attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Martha Keating; two daughters, Debra Super-Duke, and Patti Miller; three grandchildren, Orion Super, Eric Super, and Mack McCall. He was preceded in death by a son Robert Miller, two brothers, Conrad Keating, and Dan Keating, and a sister Joan Maurais. Maj. Keating will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
