Hildegard Darasz, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great grandmother went home Saturday to her eternal rest in Heaven. She was born May 9, 1930 in Birtultau, Radlin 1, Kris Rybnik, Poland to Conrad and Rosalia Grzenia. She survived many adventures in the years before and during the war. At the tender age of 2 she was scalded, in a coma for 6 months and fed holy water- and she pulled through. Her first job was working as a Governess to children in the household of a Mayor and butcher shop owner, where while washing dishes, she was poked by a rusty fork and nearly died of blood poisoning. She was chased by a bull, and soon after survived a ruptured appendix. When the Russians invaded Poland, Hildegard and her family were taken by soldiers and put on cattle cars to be sent to labor camps in Siberia. She saw many young and old die of hunger and exposure on the train. They were saved when the Allies bombed the tracks, preventing the train from reaching its destination. She always said she was grateful to the Queen of England and the Royal Air Force for bombing the tracks and saving everyone left on board that train. She married Stanislaw Darasz on March 26th 1949 in Gadeland, Germany, where her oldest daughter was born. She immigrated to America on June 28, 1951 aboard the USNS General H. Taylor with her husband Stanislaw and 1 ½ year old daughter Angelica. All three became American citizens August 1st 1961. Hildegard was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and so much more. She was a published poet who wrote many poems and songs. She was devoted to her family and loved animals, especially cats. She made sure any wildlife that came to her yard was well fed. Hildegard was proud of her four children, Angelica Darasz Kelley (David), George Darasz, Maria Darasz (Gabriel) and John Darasz (Dawn), her five grandchildren; Rosemarie, Robert (Brittany), Joseph (Keri), Angelique (Jeff) and Matthew and four great grandchildren; Emerson, Joseph, Andrew and Theodore. Her love will always be with her whole family. She has two sisters in Germany Ottelia (Harry) Nolle, Adeltrout (Edmund) Brukencifer, many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Rosalia and Conrad Grzenia, husband Stanislaw, daughter Angelica and great grandson Conrad. She was a kind, funny, compassionate, caring, wonderful human being who will be missed more than words can say. We love you Baba. The funeral will be Thursday December 5, 2019 starting with calling hours at West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:30 am followed by Mass in St. Thomas Church at 11:00 am.
