Henry Lewis Pope passed away early July 25, 2013 at his home in Freeland. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Teresa, his children Samantha, Taylor and Lewis, his father William and his brothers and sisters Frances (Richard), Alfred (Karol) and Gwen (Lee). He was born September 15, 1955 in Sylacauga, Alabama to William and Ambrosia Pope. He is preceded in death by his mother Ambrosia.
He graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1973. He was recruited to play basketball at the University of Washington where he graduated with a BS in Food Microbiology.
He was employed by Boeing for 30+ years where he was the recipient of the first Network Employee of the Year award for the entire company and a plethora of other accolades.
He volunteered unselfishly in numerous athletics activities including basketball, baseball, softball and football. He was a positive, humorous and encouraging mentor to countless youth and touched the lives of anyone who came into contact with him. This is one of the reasons why he and his wife were honored as the Hometown Heroes of South Whidbey in 2002.
Donations may be made to the "Pope Family Fund" at any Whidbey Island Bank, or mailed to 5590 S. Harbor Ave, PO Box 628, Freeland WA 98249.
The family would like to publicly thank the South Whidbey and Boeing families who have shown their support for this wonderful man and his family.
A celebration of his life will be held at the South Whidbey High School main gymnasium, 5520 Maxwelton Rd in Langley WA 98260, August 2nd at 1 pm.

Teresa, it was with great sadness that I learned of Henry's passing. I know how much you loved him and how determined you were to follow your heart so many years ago. You two had a love that could not be broken, and created a very happy life and three beautiful children together. I can't imagine the pain you are going through now. I will always keep you and Henry in my heart and prayers.

Henry will be missed by all the lives he touched. I worked with Henry when I was at Boeing. He was such a thoughtful and generous human being. His love for his family was evident in everything he did. I will always miss the way he would say "Mrs. Wilson" and that wonderful sense of humor. RIP my friend and all my prayers to his family.

Dear Henry,
You were a great inspiration to me. I will try to be as good as a neighbor, father and husband as you were. I know God is watching over your family and you can count on the extended family to be there for Teresa too. You'll be sorely missed. Much love to you always Henry.

Henry was taken from his family and friends much too soon. There were few men who were nicer or more genuine. Prayers for his family that they heal from this and know that Henry will be with them, always in their hearts and memories.

RIP 'Pope' I haven't seen my UW team mate in years and to hear of his passing truly hurts. God blessed me to have a moment with Henry in my life and we used play some serious 'ball' in the IMA. I'm eternally grateful to have met you 'HP'. My prayers are lifting up his family because your soldier has gone on to receive his reward after a job well done. Peace and blessings, Cardell W. My prayers are with the Lewis family as you say good-bye to my childhood buddy. We got in a lot of trouble together on Brentwood Street and would always get cought by our sisters. I will always remember my friend and my pal, Lewis. I was 3 days older but you was 3 feet taller. Rest in Jesus Arms.
