U.S. VeteranClifford Lynn Coy, 89, passed away on February 20, 2014 in New London, New Hampshire. He was born on May 21, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Riverside-Brookfield area. One of Cliff’s passions was playing clarinet and saxophone in various dance bands during the 1940’s. He used his musical talent during WWII when he served stateside in the United States Army and also served in the Illinois Reserve Militia. In 1949 he was graduated from the University of Illinois where he met his bride-to-be, Rose Enevold. They began their life together in Clarendon Hills, IL, and in 1953 moved to Glen Cove, New York, where they raised their family. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2013. During the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s Cliff was a Publisher’s Representative, establishing a successful New York City company that sold advertising for several trade publications.


During the 1960’s the family acquired a summer cottage in New London, which evolved into their year-round home. In the 1970’s and 80’s they lived in Ridgefield CT until Cliff retired. They were snowbirds for over 20 years, finally deciding in 2004 to brave the New England winters. Cliff was a resident at Woodcrest Village in New London at the time of his passing, where he was cared for with love, patience, and good humor.


Cliff was the organizing founder of the Little Sunapee Protective Association in 1970, just as the Nation was becoming more environmentally-conscious. He was a member of the King Solomon’s Lodge #14 F & AM, and was involved with the New London Boys Club, New London Lions Club , and Kearsarge Regional Habitat for Humanity. One of his favorite gatherings was the weekly Men’s Discussion Group where he enjoyed coffee and talk with the fellas. Cliff also became computer-savvy in the early days of the internet, donating his time to create websites for various organizations and historical societies. One hobby was genealogy. Golf was another of his favorite pastimes. Cliff and Rose also found joy travelling all over the world.


Cliff is survived by his beloved wife, Rose and devoted son Steven Coy, both of New London and his daughter Cyndy Coy-Ginsbury of Essex Junction, VT. Also surviving are granddaughter Allison Coy and her partner, Jason Schaefer of New London, step-grandaughter Allison Ginsbury of Winooski, VT, grandsons Peter Ginsbury and his partner Ella Farnsworth of Jackson WY, and Nathan Ginsbury of Burlington VT, and great-granddaughter Morgan Schaefer of New London. In addition, surviving him are three nieces and five nephews and their families. He was pre-deceased in 1980 by his only brother, Donald Coy, and very recently, a niece, Karen Floyd.


A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at The First Baptist Church of New London, NH. Memorial contributions may be made
