Miaquita Gray Obituary

Published by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home - Mechanicsville from Feb. 6 to Feb. 7, 2017.
Miaquita Janay Gray, 26 of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on February 4, 2017. Miaquita was born on August 9, 1990 to the late Thomas H. Gray and Delores M. Gray in Leonardtown, MD. Miaquita, affectionately known by the names of Mia, Quita, Baby Girl or Quita Beata, received her education through the St. Mary’s County Public School system- Carver Elementary School, Spring Ridge Middle School and graduating from Great Mills High School in 2008. She also furthered her education by attending St. Mary’s Community College, Leonardtown, MD, for two years.

Miaquita was employed at CATO department store as an assistant manager. When she was younger, she loved playing basketball for Recreation and Parks. In addition, Miaquita was involved in performing arts in Theater and was a member of the National Performing Arts Society. She has performed in numerous plays.

She loved to spend time with her mother, Delores, shopping and traveling together. Miaquita also enjoyed spending time with her nephews, playing pool, sitting at the beach looking at the calming and peaceful water or walking in the parks. Miaquita spent a lot of quality time with her special cousins, the “Mini Divas”, as they called themselves; Kimberly Biscoe, Keyana Barnes, Shanice Barnes, Keyanh Barnes, Cassandra Augillard and Valisha Chase. The “Mini Divas” were always together when time permitted. She also spent time with her special male cousins as well – Lenny Augillard, Kevin Barnes, Jerome Barnes, Jr., Steve Mason, Jr., David Jordan, Jr. and Jermarkus Washington.

Last, but not least, one of the loves of her life was her dog, King. Miaquita loved, cherished and enjoyed her dog immensely and he loved and protected her back. King was like a spoiled BABY. He was given to her by her brother, Kodi, for a birthday present ten years ago.

Miaquita, “Princess” was a pleasant, beautiful young lady, inside and out. She loved life and always tried to make everyone happy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas H. Gray, Jr.; her grandparents, Thomas and Shirley Barnes and Gladys Gray and great-grandmother, Phileo B. Saxton.

Miaquita leaves to cherish her precious memories her beloved mother, Delores, of Lexington Park, MD; her brothers, Shabazz (Shameka), of Calvert County, MD, Kodi Robinson (Tanae), of Lexington Park, MD; sister, Keisha Gray, of Washington, DC; her boyfriend, Emmanuel Perkins, of Lexington Park, MD; nephews, K’Tron, Kemauri, Tobias, Tevon, John Thomas, Sherron, Damian and Jovan; one niece, Geniya; Godparents, John F. Gross, Saundra Marshall; aunts, Cheryl Barnes, Cynthia Emmanuel, of Charlotte, NC, Janet Johnson, of Calvert County, MD, Valerie Barnes, of Solomons, MD, Pat Gray, of Calvert County, MD, Lisa Barnes, of Woodbridge, VA, Greta Barnes, of Lexington Park, MD; uncles, Jerome (Jackie), of Lexington Park, MD, Daryl (Pat), of Lexington Park, MD, Vincent (Ivy), of Waldorf, MD, Gregory Barnes, of Lexington Park, MD, David (Tammy), of Louisiana, Dennis Gray, of Calvert County, MD; brother-in-law, Jerry Gray (Renee); grandfather, Thomas H. Gray, Sr., as well as a host of cousins, other family members and friends, who have nothing but love for her and each other.

Family and friends will unite on Monday, February 13, 2017 for visitation at 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at First Missionary Baptist Church, 46370 Pegg Ln, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 22020 Chancellors Run Rd, Great Mills, MD. Reverend Roderick McClanahan will be officiating. The family would be most appreciative and thankful of a monetary donation to help with funeral expenses. Donations may be made directly to Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home via credit card, certified check, cash or money order. No personal checks accepted.

We cannot judge a biography by its length.
Nor by the number of pages in it. We must judge it by the richness of its contents. Sometimes those unfinished are among the most poignant. We cannot judge a song by its duration. Nor by the number of its notes. We must judge it by the way it touches and lifts our souls. Sometimes those unfinished are among the most beautiful. And when something has enriched your life. Let the melody of Miaquita's memory linger on in your heart. Lean on the strength of family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
