Lois A. Tibbets

1917 - 2010

Longtime Lodi resident Lois A. Tibbets passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the assisted living facility in Tracy where she had resided for the past three years. Mrs. Tibbets was a faithful member of Lodi Avenue Baptist Church since 1971. She was born Lois A. Barnes in Hartford, Arkansas June 3, 1917 and was raised in Eastern Oklahoma. Married to Albert C. Tibbets on August 15, 1934 in Choate Prairie, Oklahoma, they moved to Safford, Arizona in 1938. She moved to Centerville (present day Fremont), CA in early 1942 and then to San Leandro, CA while her husband worked in the shipyards in Oakland to support the war effort. The Tibbets family settled in unincorporated Hayward near San Lorenzo in 1952 and remained at that location until Albert and Lois moved to their vineyard home located in Acampo, CA in 1972. Albert passed away in 1976.
Lois remained in Lodi staying active in all church activities and enjoying visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, until she could no longer live independently.
She was an inspiration of courage and determination to her family and friends and stayed true to her convictions of Faith, Hope and Charity her entire life. God bless you Mom, we know you are at peace in the arms of the Lord.
Lois is survived by four children: Albert H. Tibbets and his wife Betty of Turlock, CA. Emma Laverne Kunsky and her husband David A. Kunsky of Chula Vista, CA, David K. Tibbets and his wife Sandra of Sonora, CA and Timothy W. Tibbets and his wife Colleen of Tracy, CA. She is survived by ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Viewing for family and friends will be at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home at 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA 95240 on Thursday, September 9 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Services will be held on the Evergreen chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM.
