Charlyn Lauchland Obituary

Charlyn Eloise Lauchland, died peacefully in her Lodi home on October 18th. She was 87 years old.
She was born August 2, 1923 in Dayton, Nevada. She was the daughter of Alma and Charles Coburn and had two brothers Merl and Marvin. She spent her youth in and around Roseville, California.
She graduated from Stockton High School, at the age of 16,in 1939. She met John Lauchland, the love of her life at a dance. They were married on May 5, 1940 and spent the next 68 years dancing, playing cards, boating and farming. They were active in the Masonic Lodge, where Charlyn served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. They were worldwide travelers encompassing all of the fifty states and all of the seven continents.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a 35-year plus docent for the San Joaquin County Historical Museum.
The onset of WWII brought a great sense of duty to the country. Charlyn joined the Coast Guard after her husband was called to active duty and served her country as a clerk in the SPARS. After they both were discharged from service they returned to Lodi and continued farming.
They built their home together and started a family. They had five daughters , Jacklyn Shaw of Seal Beach, Penny Beckman of Lodi, Vicki Beatty of Temecula, Bonnie Booker of Oakdale and Debie Woehl of Acampo, who preceded her in death. They instilled in them the importance of hard work, community, appreciation of the arts, and the importance of education. All graduated from College and earned their Master Degrees. Charlyn also went back to school and earned her degree in Nursing. Her seven grandchildren, John Beckman, Chad Beckman, Sandi Starr, Dr. Alexis Beatty Alexander, Susan Robinson, Laura MacNeel and Paul Woehl are also College graduates. Charlyn has five great grandchildren Charles and Rebecca Starr, Jessie, Hannah and Phoebe Robinson.
Charlyn will be lovingly remembered by her family and all those who called her a friend as her home knew no stranger.
Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday October 22nd at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lodi, 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Joaquin County Historical Society.

As Charlyn's first Tai Chi teacher, I will always remember her brave spirit and strong sense of humor. She never took herself too seriously, and she was always so thoughtful of others. She had a certain independence about her, and a flair for living life fully. I was so impressed with her courage in facing the challenges of life head-on. What a beauty she was! Inside and out. I am so sorry to hear that she is gone, but her memory is indelible. She is truly one that is unforgettable. I will keep her in my heart. Glenda Hesseltine Eureka, Calif.

I just recently met Charlyn, and spent many nights with her as her care giver. It was a wonderful experience spending time with her and going down memory lane. She makes a great fruit cake and one nite about 10:00 pm she remembered the cake needed more brandy. We sat in the kitchen talking about her cake and adding the brandy, what a great night that was for her. Thank you Charlyn, Always Jan Royce

Charlyn was a beautiful lady. Along with all her many ventures, she so enjoyed her weekly Tai Chi classes. Our Monday mornings won't be the same without you. Blessings to your family at this time.

How the years have flown since Ken worked the vineyards on Harney Lane with the 'Lauchland girls'. Their mom and dad taught them how to work hard. We were always welcomed in when we stopped by the house, too. We wish you all peace and comfort as you remember the good times of Charlyn's life with you.
