Margaret Gaugel Obituary

Margaret Gaugel of Lodi passed away Friday, November 5th, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born on March 1, 1932 in Backnang, Germany to George and Francisca Rotermund. Margaret attended school in Germany, and prior to traveling to America she worked as a pharmacy technician. Margaret immigrated to America in 1953 to marry the love of her life, John Gaugel.
Margaret worked for Guild Winery in Lodi for 23 years prior to retiring in 1994. She previously worked for Pacific Coast Producers and Garfield Elementary School in the cafeteria. Margaret was an active member of Emanuel Lutheran church for 57 years, participating in woman's Bible study and Sunday school. Margaret was truly a servant of the Lord, cooking and participating in various church functions, always volunteering when help was needed. She and John were married at Emanuel in February, 1953. They recently reaffirmed their wedding vows as part of Emanuel's 90th anniversary celebration. They traveled to Germany on numerous occasions visiting relatives and friends. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her home. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Margaret was the consummate hostess, always making certain her guests had enough to eat and drink. She will be best remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Mr. John Gaugel of Lodi; two sons, Hans of Battle Ground, WA, his long time companion DeLora Rust; Gerhard Gaugel of Bakersfield, CA and his wife Glenna. Margaret is also survived by four grandchildren: Gregory Gaugel of Gillette, WY, his wife Jandra, Suzanne Gaugel of Vancouver, WA, John Gaugel and Marlena Gaugel of Bakersfield. Margaret had two great-grandchildren, 18 month old Gracie and new born Evan. She is also survived by two brothers Georg Rotermund and Erich Beutelspacher, and one sister Gisela Botta all of Germany, as well as, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter Annemarie Hogan of San Jose, CA.
A church service will be held Friday, November 12, 2010, 10:00 AM at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1540 W. Lodi Ave., followed by internment at the Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. Immediately following the internment a luncheon will be held at Emanuel. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com where memories may be shared.

My most heartfelt condolences to John and the family. Margaret's passing will leave a hole in my heart as well. She was a lovely person, a gentle mother, a woman of strong faith, and a soft-spoken personality. My family and I were often guests in the Gaugel home, and enjoyed so much the wonderful talent Margaret had for baking special foods and making us feel welcome!!
I shall miss her smile and grace!

Margaret was always so kind and gracious to me. She would constantly ask me how I was doing and particularly loved to hear about my grandchildren. Margaret was a lovely example of how we should treat each other. She's left a marvelous legacy and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and her many friends.
