Josephine Etta Potter

1922 - 2010

Josephine Etta Potter, 88, of Lodi, CA passed from this life, November 29, 2010, at a local Lodi hospital.
Born July 21, 1922 in Los Angeles, CA to William Parker and Josephine Castillo. She was an only child and raised by her father until, at the age of five, she was put in a Salvation Army orphanage near Santa Rosa, Ca. She never knew her mother. At fourteen, she returned to live with her father and grandparents in Los Angeles until her marriage to Milford Potter, March 23, 1940. She was blessed with three children, two boys and a girl, William, Carol and Milford. Tragically, her husband died when he was only 38 years old from a sudden heart attack
Her greatest joy was her family first, traveling, church, clubs and crossword puzzles. She loved her pets.
She worked as a nurse's aide in convalescent hospitals in Bell, Milpitas and Las Vegas for 30 years. She retired at the age of 62 and moved to Lodi to be near her family.
Josephine was the past president of the Eagles Auxiliary of Maywood and Lodi, CA. where she enjoyed many happy events including giving bingo at Vienna Convalescent. She was a member of the Lodi Methodist church where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Birk (James) of Lodi and son Milford Potter (Linda) of Stockton; grandchildren Ross Black, Russell Black (Louella), Misty Worthy, Wendy Mujica, Kim Starcher, Christine Paiz (Michael), Sherry Garner, David Garner and William Potter. Sixteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; and son William who was killed in 1967 of the Vietnam War.
Funeral services will be at gravesite, 2 PM, December 10, Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 East Pine St, Lodi CA. Reception to follow at 1117 Chianti Drive. Lodi.  In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Lodi PALS or Salvation Army. The family wishes to thank Vienna Convalescent and Lodi Memorial Hospital for all their care and kindness.
