Josephine "Chepie" Torres

1940 - 2010

Josephine (Chepie) Torres, 70, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 peacefully at her home in Lodi, CA.
Born March 19, 1940 in Clarksburg and raised in Woodbridge, California.
Chepie was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. Although she had no biological children, she raised her niece Monica Torres. Family and friends will remember Chepie for her unparalleled generosity, kindness and loving nature, which included her avid love for animals. In her earlier years, Chepie worked at Woolworth Company as a valued sales associate and later at a local movie theater. Later in life, she enjoyed frequenting the Lodi movie theater, dining with family, and cheering on the U.S.A soccer team.
Her husband, Leobardo Torres of Lodi, her brother Carmen Gomez, and two sisters, Amelia Sandoval and Benita Centeno, survive her. Chepie's treasured nieces and nephews also survive her, many of whom regarded her as a second mother. Preceded in death by her parents, Enrique Gomez and Elena Gomez of Woodbridge as well as her brothers and sisters; Sergio Maldonado, Robert Gomez, Benjamin Gomez, Tony Gomez, Paul Gomez, Josefina Moreno and Ester Corona. Family and friends will miss her greatly and always carry her memory in their hearts.
A rosary will be said on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lodi Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 7, 2011 at noon at the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery followed by a gathering at her favorite restaurant, Hometown Buffet in Stockton.
