My condolences go to the family of Elbert Johns. My husband and I enjoyed many Sunday lunches with Myrtle and him after services at Christ Church. He was a fine gentleman and great Christian friend.

Elbert was always the example of what I felt a BSA Program Director should be. He was a good friend, a good man and a good Scouter. I will miss him.

Many of us have lost a person who was a real inspiration on how one puts his/her Christian faith into practice.

A book could be written about it but that is not necessary for those of us who knew him.

El's faith was there, everyday, everywhere and with everyone.

Those of us who worked along side him in the Boy Scouts witnessed an untiring, fully committed Scout Executive who was an example of what "Duty of God, Duty to Country and Duty to others" was all about.

How many hundreds and hundreds of Scouts as well as their leaders that he influenced would be difficult to determine.

I'm sure the Lord is saying to him, "Well done, my good and faithful Scout".

Elbert was a kind, gentle, and wonderful person. He touched countless lives during his many years volunteering at Methodist Evangelical Hospital and Norton Healthcare Pavilion. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be dearly missed. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like Elbert Johns.

Dearest "Cuz" . . . you were the sturdy oak that held and sheltered this remarkable, far-flung family. Your intellect and curiosity, like your love, were all-encompassing. You set a powerful standard for us all, and it will always be there in our hearts as we follow you. You comforted me when I needed it most with the image of bidding goodbye to a ship sailing away from one shore, only to land on another. where others are waiting to greet it. We bid you goodbye, and wish you Godspeed with all our love....."Mary Florence"
