Bessie Alexion

Bessie (Vasiliki) Alexion lived in Chelmsford, active in community; 88 NASHUA, NH Bessie (Vasiliki) Alexion, 88, of Nashua, NH, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua, with her family by her side. She was born in S. Chelmsford, MA, on August 29, 1919, daughter of the late George and Maria (Comatos) Tassios. Bessie was the wife of Retired "USAF" Captain Christos Alexion who predeceased her in January of 1993. Bessie was educated in the local Chelmsford schools, and was a longtime resident of Chelmsford. From 2002 through 2006, she was a resident of Nashua Crossings. She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, MA serving as a member of the Board for their Ladies Philoptochos Society. Bessie was active in many charitable and social functions. She was also a former member of the Daughters of Penelope, the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), as an avid bridge player, An Associate Member of the Retired Officers Association (TROA) and the National Association of Uniformed Services (NARS). She was also fortunate enough to spend several years abroad in Europe and Japan. Since 2002 Bessie has been a member of St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church here in Nashua, NH. Mrs. Alexion enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, and entertaining friends and family. She was a great homemaker. Besides her parents and husband, Bessie was predeceased by a daughter, Athena "Teena" Lawson on February 4, 2007; a brother Xenophon "Sam" Tassios; three sisters, Xenia "Anna" Pitarys, Kaisey Zanis, and Thelma Antonopoulos; and a nephew, George Tassios. She is survived by her son, Arthur Alexion and his wife, Alexandra "Alexa" Berret of Penllyn, PA, and Easton, MD; a daughter, Maria Economou and her significant other, John of Hudson, NH; a son-in-law, Scott Lawson of Henniker, NH; four grandchildren, Melissa Economou of Manchester, NH, Zachary Lawson of Henniker, NH, Amanda Economou of Woburn, MA, and Ashley Lawson of Baltimore, MD; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Lawson of Henniker, NH; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church in Nashua, NH. Burial will follow at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford, MA.
