James Comfort Obituary

James A. Comfort enjoyed fishing, watching sports & reading Tewksbury James A. Comfort, age 77, a forever proud Korean War Army Veteran and Tewksbury resident for 53 years, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 20, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Carolyn D. (Travers) Comfort, with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 27th. He's the loving father of his four children, Deborah A. McCourt and her husband David of Hopewell, NJ, James A. Comfort, Jr. and his wife Christine of Upton, MA, Glen P. Comfort and his wife Linda of Billerica and Kevin J. Comfort and his wife Joanne of Flemington, NJ. He was the proud and doting grandfather of 11 Grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Alice Linehan of Lincoln, RI and Diane Vlasuk and her fiancé Wayne Wesson of Danvers; two brothers, Charles Comfort of Roslindale and William Comfort and his wife Maureen of Londonderry, NH; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Cambridge on March 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Wood) Comfort. He resided in Cambridge until moving to Tewksbury in 1955. In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War as a Sergeant earning the Silver Star Medal. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 20 years as a truck driver with Teamster's Union Local # 25. Mr. Comfort was a communicant of Saint William's Parish of Tewksbury and a member of Tewksbury V.F.W. Post # 8164. Mr. Comfort enjoyed many activities including fishing, watching sports and reading. COMFORT James A. Calling hours Sunday, June 22nd, from 3-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Monday, June 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m., at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org, 330 Congress St., Boston, MA 02210 are requested. www.farmeranddee.com
