Everett Porteous Obituary

Everett A. Porteous of Chelmsford; 89 Chelmsford Mr. Everett A. Porteous, a former resident of Lowell more recently of Chelmsford, died July 12, 2008 in Chelmsford aged 89 years. He was the husband of the late Alma E. (Roy) Porteous. A World War II Army Veteran. Everett was born in Lowell, on March 20, 1919, the son of the late Frank J. and Lena M. (Everett) Porteous. He received his education in the Lowell school system. Everett worked with his father in the Landscaping business. At the outbreak of World War II he enlisted in the United States Army on September 5, 1940. Serving as a Heavy Machine Gunner. He was the recipient of the, Expert Infantry Badge, American Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged October 18, 1945. When he returned home he worked for the former Educator Company and then the State Department of Public Works until his retirement. Mr. Porteous was a member of the First Congregational Church and Christ Church United of Lowell. He was a member of the Chelmsford Senior Center, and enjoyed the company of many friends. Mr. Porteous is survived by a sister-in-law, Mabel Vaillancourt of Columbia, SC; two nephews, Rev. Ronald LaFlam of Columbia, SC and Walter LaFlam of Greensville, SC. A cousin Donald Everett of Milford, NH and cousin Jean Hallett of Revere, MA. He was the brother of the late Richard Porteous. PORTEOUS Died in Chelmsford, Mr. Everett A. Porteous, a resident of Lowell, more recently of Chelmsford, died July 12, 2008, aged 89 years. A World War II Army Veteran. He was the husband of the late Alma E. (Roy) Porteous. Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd at Chester and Harvard Sts. on Wednesday, from 6-8 PM. Friends who wish may make Memorial Contributions in his name to the Christ Church United of Lowell, 180 East Merrimack St. Lowell, MA 01852. Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, at 10 AM Friends invited. Interment in Lowell Cemetery. Funeral Director Walter F. Bayliss, Jr. www.morsebaylissfuneralhome.com
