Maria Costa Obituary

Maria E. Costa of Lowell, St. Anthony member; 77 LOWELL Maria E. (Pires) Costa, 77, of Lowell, died after a brief illness, Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Youville Hospital and Rehabilitation in Cambridge. She was the widow of Elias Costa, who passed away April 6, 2001. Born October 28, 1930, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, she was raised and educated in that area. Moving to the United States in 1974, she settled in Lowell's Back Central Street neighborhood. She was a daughter of the late Jose V., and the late Lucinda B. (Perreira) Pires. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and was a member of the Lowell Senior Citizens Club. She was employed as an Assembler with Wang Laboratories for 11 years before her retirement. She was also previously employed at Inforex in Burlington, and Perry Shoe in Lowell. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed cleaning, shoveling snow, and she loved her pets. She is survived by 2 sons, Jose G. Costa and his wife, Gabriela, of Dracut, and Carl D. Costa and his wife, Paula, of Lowell; 3 grandchildren; Amanda M. Costa of Dracut, Katrina A. Costa of Dracut, and Kyle Costa of Lowell; a sister, Louisa Silva and her husband, Manuel, of Billerica; and many nieces and nephews. COSTA YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON FRIDAY. ON SATURDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST.
