George Contakos Obituary

George Contakos lifelong Lowell Resident, Holy Trinity Member; 76 LOWELL George Contakos, 76, a Lowell resident for more than seven decades, and the last sibling of the Contakos family, a well-known Lowell family, died at home in Lowell. He was born in Lowell, August 26, 1931, son of the late Christos and Athena (Tsakonakos) Contakos. He attended the Hellenic School and Lowell public schools and was a graduate of Harvard College. His college education was interrupted by four years of military service to his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Grace Dickinson of Whately, and Semone Contakos of Lowell; three nephews, John H. Contakos of Lowell, Christopher H. Contakos, residing in Granbury, Texas, and Christos Anthony Contakos of Ashfield; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. George was also the brother of the late Nicholas C., James C., Harry C., Anthony C., Charles C., Agnes, Georgia and Pota (Pat) Contakos, and the brother-in-law to the late Effie Contakos and Rose Contakos. CONTAKOS Private Memorial Services and burial were held in the Westlawn Cemetery. Donations can be made in memory of George Contakos to the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell, MA 01854.

George is The Presence of Love. I have fond memories of George when I lived on Suffolk Street and visited "Charley's Corner" and had great conversations with him.
