Janet A. Simmons of Wilmington, St. Thomas member; 82 WILMINGTON Mrs. Janet A. (Ball) Simmons, age 82, of Wilmington, died peacefully at her home on September 18, 2008, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born in Salem, MA, February 16, 1926, to the late Ralph C. and Jennie A. (Silva) Ball, and spent her early years in Gloucester. She attended Somerville public schools where she graduated from Somerville High School in 1943. She worked in Boston for a number of years before moving, with her husband, to Wilmington in 1950. Janet enjoyed being an active volunteer at Mission of Deeds in Reading. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington who attended Mass on a daily basis. Janet was very active up until the time of her illness. She enjoyed baking, gardening, walking and spending time with her grandchildren. Janet was the beloved wife of the late William A. Simmons, the devoted and loving mother of Robert J. Simmons and his wife, Janice (Lowe) of Billerica, Joseph P. Simmons and his wife, Melissa (Glencross), Carolyn S. Gable and her husband, William, all of Wilmington, the late Mary M. Simmons and Frank W. Simmons; dear grandmother of Michael and Stefanie Gable, William, Thomas and Jonathon Simmons who are all from Wilmington. Janet was also the sister of Robert F. Ball of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the late Ralph C. Ball. SIMMONS Janet A. (Ball), age 82, of Wilmington, September 18, 2008, at home surrounded by her family. Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., on Monday, September 22nd, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
