John Laffey Obituary

John J. Laffey Jr. active in Dracut community, Marine vet; 75 DRACUT John Joseph Laffey Jr., 75, a longtime Dracut resident, died Friday evening, in Saints Memorial Medical Center. He was the beloved husband for 42 years of Lorraine (Queenan) Laffey of Dracut. Born in Lowell, on December 27, 1932, he was the son of the late John J. and Matilda (Becht) Laffey. He received his education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School class of 1950 where he was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps. In his early years, Mr. Laffey had been employed for 34 years as a printer by the former Courier Citizen Corp. in Lowell. More recently and until the time of his retirement, he was employed in the Maintenance Department of the Tewksbury School System. He was a communicant of St. Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut. Active in the Dracut community, he was an assistant coach for the Dracut Little League as well as a Scouting Assistant for the Dracut Cub Scouts. He was also a member of the Westford Sportsmen's Club where he held the title of sharpshooter, a member of the former Marines Club in Lowell, and was a avid supporter of the DAV. In his free time, he enjoyed furniture refinishing, gardening, outdoor activities and time spent in the company of his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Grace and Michael Riordan and Sandra and John Linane, all of Lowell; one son, John Joseph Laffey III and his companion, Dawn Laurent of Dracut; three grandchildren Chelsea and Bridget Linane, and John Michael Riordan; one sister, Eleanor Antonelli of Chelmsford; and many nieces and nephews. LAFFEY Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Monday from 4 until 8 P.M. His Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 A.M. followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9 A.M. in St. Marguerite D'Youville Parish at St. Theresa's Church.
