Esther Barsamian Obituary

Esther Ella Barsamian active at the First Church of the Nazarene; 82 LOWELL Mrs. Esther E.(Cottam) Barsamian, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Oct. 11, 2008, after a brief illness, aged 82 years. She was the wife of the late Alexander J. Barsamian. Born in Lowell, October 11, 1926, the daughter of the late John E. and Minnie (Woodward) Cottam. She received her early education in the Lowell School Varnum, and 10th Street and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1945. She pursued her training in hairdressing at the Wilfred Academy in Boston, and was a licensed hairdresser in Massachusetts in 1949. She worked as a hairdresser for a few years and opened her own Beauty Shop in 1950, The American Beauty Salon, which she operated until 1961. Esther had been active in the Lowell Association of Cosmetology. She married Alexander J. Barsamian in 1957, and in 1961 left work to raise their family and resided in the Centralville section of the city. In the late 70's, she became associated with Sago Rugs, working in the micro film department, the accounting and record keeping department until 1979, at which time she became employed at Wang Labs in Chelmsford in the micro film department retiring in 1991. Mrs. Barsamian was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She had worked their as custodian part time and had also worked at the Day Care Center, as the "Lady in the Kitchen". She had also been a member of the Choir for over 25 years, taught Sunday School, held membership in the Mary Martha Society, worked on the church bulletin, and register for the Missionary Society. Mrs. Barsamian is survived by one son, Barry A. Barsamian and his wife, Pioe, of Lowell. Also a very dear friend, Carol Linton of Dracut. Visitation hours are Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1195 Varnum Ave., Lowell, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment will be private.
