John A. Kula
of Billerica, former Woburn businessman; 99
BILLERICA John A. Kula, of Billerica, formerly of Wellfleet and Woburn, passed away at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica on Thursday Morning, October 16. He was 99 years of age.
Born in Manchester, NH, he was the son of the late Albert J. Kula, and the late Anna (Marek) Kula; and he was the husband of the late Freda M. (Case) Kula.
Mr. Kula was Co-Owner of the
former F.M. Case Pharmacy in the South End of Woburn, until his
retirement in 1974.
Mr. Kula served on the Board of
Directors of the Woburn Cooperative Bank, served on the Board of
Directors and as the Executive Secretary of the Woburn YMCA, and he was the Acting Secretary for the
Manchester YMCA for 13 years.
Mr. Kula also served as a Trustee for the First
Congregational Church of Wellfleet for two terms.
Mr. Kula was also active in area service clubs. He was as Charter Member of the Woburn Kiwanis Club, volunteering time at Camp Middlesex in Ashby; and he was a Charter Member of the Orleans-Eastham Elks Lodge. He was Life Member of the Adams Lodge AF&AM in Wellfleet, and a member of the Talbot Lodge AF&AM in Billerica, as well as a member of the Aleppo Temple Shriners. John was a member of the Billerica Senior Center and the Council on Aging, and in his younger years was a sucessful marathon runner, running the Boston Marathon several times.
John is survived by two sons, Donald A. Kula of Nashua, NH, and John D. Kula of Woburn; one daughter, Joanne D. Pendergast of Billerica; and he was preceded in death by one son, the late Frederick A. Kula. He is also survived by one sister, Stella Beliveau of Manchester; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
