Gordon Fernald Obituary

Gordon Sumner Fernald Electrical mechanical design engineer; 73 TEWKSBURY Gordon Sumner Fernald, age 73, died peacefully on Friday, October 17, at his home in Tewksbury, surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Lane) Fernald. He was born in Somerville, April 6, 1935, the son of the late Herbert S. and Alice (Lovejoy) Fernald. He was raised in Somerville, and graduated from Somerville High. He resided in Tewksbury, and Cape Porpoise, Maine. He entered into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and served in Cuba. He went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute, and became an electrical/mechanical design engineer for the Sanborn Company, and later the Adcole Company. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael G. and his wife, Alicia (Belleville) Fernald of Hudson, NH, Brian G. and his wife, Valerie (Berger) Fernald of Chelmsford, Joseph L. and his wife, Lori (Dembkoski) Fernald of Hudson, NH; six grandchildren, Brittany of Pittsburg, NH, Matthew of Chelmsford, Brad of Hudson, NH, Jarrett, Daniel, and Nathan, all of Chelmsford; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia. FERNALD of Tewksbury, Oct. 17, Gordon Sumner Fernald, age 73, beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Lane) Fernald. At his request, services are private. A Memorial Service will be announced in November. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his honor to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, Office of Development, 200 Westboro Rd., North Grafton, MA 01536. Arrangements are through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
