Harold Fletcher Obituary

Harold A. Fletcher, Sr. former Westford Water Dept. superintendent, EMT, and firefighter, Army vet; 81 WESTFORD Harold A. Fletcher, Sr., 81, beloved husband of Frances L. Chambers) Fletcher for 54 years, lifelong resident of Westford, died suddenly at Emerson Hospital in Concord, November 27th, 2008. Born in Westford, April 7th, 1927, the son of Austin D. Fletcher and Ethel M. (Ripley) Fletcher, he was a graduate of Westford Academy, Class of 1946. Harold began his firefighting career as a volunteer in high school and continued as a call fireman, and became Captain of Company I. He was an active EMT until his retirement in 1992 and assisted with the fundraising program for Westford's first ambulance. Harold joined the Army in 1951 and was stationed at Fort Devens in Ayer, MA and in Watertown, N.Y. for four years of service. Harold began his career in the Westford Water Department in 1947 and became Superintendent. He retired after 49 years of service. In recognition of that service, the water department well off Concord Road is named in his honor. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons; Harold "Haffie" A. Fletcher, Jr. and his wife, Deby of Westford, Roger "Roddy" Fletcher of Clovis, N.M., David Fletcher and his wife, Cindy of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, A. Dana Fletcher and his wife, Muriel E. Fletcher of Chelmsford; a sister, Marjorie F. Smith of Chelmsford; four granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren. Harold was the brother of the late Reverend Charles Fletcher, stepson of Eleanor (Colburn) Fletcher, brother-in-law of the late Lawrence Smith, and was father-in-law of the late Linda (Sena) Fletcher. FLETCHER Visiting hours on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 NORTH MAIN ST., WESTFORD. His funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 75 Cold Spring Rd. Westford. Burial to follow in St. Mark's Memorial Garden. Fran and family,

Norma and I just returned from a week out of town to find the flags at half staff. We just learned of Harold's death, and want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Harold's amazingly hard work on behalf of the residents of Westford will remembered and appreciated by all who knew him.

Haffie, Debbie, Mrs Fletcher and the Fletcher family Carol & I are very sorry for your loss. Mr Fletcher was a good man who had a incredible amount of responsibility as head of the Water Department for the town of Westford. His contributions and sense of volunteerism to the town of Westford with the ambulance fund etc were significant, his legacy will live on.
