Robert Beecy Obituary

Robert E. Beecy Billerica, World War II Navy Veteran; 83 Billerica Robert E. "Bob" Beecy, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Billerica, passed away on Monday August, 20, 2007, at home surrounded by loved ones after a short battle with merkel cell cancer. Born in Somerville, Bob was the son of the late William and Anastasia (Steadman) Beecy. Brought up in Arlington for 6 years, then in Bedford for the next 12, he graduated from Lexington High School where he played football, hockey and baseball, including playing in the 1941 Eastern Mass. All Star Hockey Game in the Boston Garden. In 1943, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until August, 1946. His main duty of electrician's mate was served on the USS Borie, where he participated in several of the battles in the Western Pacific. He was the loving husband of Emily (Buckley) Beecy of Waltham, whose parents were Lee and Eva Ray (Pierce). They met at Walden's Pond shortly after he got out of the Navy in 1946 and were married on the 1st of February, 1947. Coincidentally, their last of 15 grandchildren was born on the same date 49 years later. Bob's first job after the Navy was as a chauffeur in Lexington, Mass., where Emily and he summered on the Cape with his employers. However, as the kids became too numerous, he eventually accepted work with New England Bell, where he spent 27 years. They moved to Billerica in 1956, close to the center of town, and then to Manchester, NH, in 2004. He is lovingly survived by his wife Emily and his 6 children: June and her husband Gerry; Robert Jr.; Don and his wife Marsha; Beth and her husband Wayne; Susan and her husband Brian; and John and his wife Donna. He was also survived by his 15 grandchildren Patrick, Robbie, Brenden, Kristen, Sarah, Alex, Mike, Emily, Greg, Taryn, Kurtis, Tami, James, Eric, and Cam. He was predeceased by his beautiful granddaughter, Michelle. He has 3 great-grandchildren: Abbey, Emma, and Colby. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor and his two brothers Phil and Al, and many nieces and nephews. Bob's focus in life was his family, and for Christmas every year he simply asked for good kids. Near the end, he said he got what he wanted and much, much more. BEECY Robert E. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 25, 2007, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester at 11am. It is located at 669 Union St., Manchester, NH 03104.

Dear Emily and the Beecy family,
John and I are so sorry to hear the news of Bob's passing. We were his neighbors in Billerica for a few years before he and Emily moved to NH. We will always remember his kind and generous spirit and his friendly nature.
Our deepest sympathies go out to you during this sad time.
