Nathan Keegan Obituary

Nathan Bright Keegan
FALMOUTH -- Nathan Bright Keegan, of Falmouth and Little Cranberry Island, passed away on April 19, 2007. Nathan was born June 25, 1983, in Biddeford. He was the son of John and Christine Keegan of Falmouth, and the brother of Rebecca and Brian Keegan. He is survived by numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Nate. He could make you simultaneously laugh, cry, scream and rip your hair out. He was the little boy with the superman cape who discovered the cape didn't make him fly when he jumped off the back steps. So, he tried jumping off the back porch but he still couldn't fly. Then he climbed to the top of the tree house because surely then the cape would work and he would fly. On that day, as on many days, a friend intervened and Nate did not break his neck or an arm. Unfortunately, he never stopped believing that he could do life differently than the rest of us. He could defy gravity and fly, he could dive off the dock shed at low tide and not break his neck, he could get high one more time. This time he will return, in our hearts and minds only, to the island, friends, and open sky he loved.
Nate was blessed with many, many generous, compassionate and loyal friends and family members. Over and over again individuals saw Nate's joie de vivre, his humor and his tender spots, reaching out and supporting him and one another in a thousand different ways.
A service will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at St. Bartholomew's Church, 396 Gilman Rd., Yarmouth. A memorial service and burial will take place on Little Cranberry Island in the near future. On-line condolences and a guest book available at IndependentDeathCare.com.

I still think about Nate a lot. I reminisce fondly about all the good and not-so-good times we had together. His charisma, empathy, humor and kindness were one in a billion and have made an everlasting impression on me. I miss my old friend.

He will be missed by all of us on Islesford who loved to watch him jump from the top of the shed on the Islesford dock-I'll never forget the look on my kids the first time they saw him-I also have a cool mid-flight photo

That's how you came here, like a star
without a name. Move across the night sky

"May the road rise
up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And the rains fall soft upon your fields..." Irish Blessing

Rest in peace Keegan. You will be forever loved and forever missed. Please help us to learn from you. Help us to fight the war on drugs. I don't think I can bear to lose another friend to this horrible disease. I pray that there is no pain where you are, and I hope that you have been granted your serenity.
