Betty Shaw Obituary

SOLON -- Betty E. Shaw, 68, of Solon passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, at her home in Solon.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt and friend.

She was born July 2, 1940, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Raymond Langley and Helen (Bunker) Daggett.

She previously worked at Barry's Apple Orchard, the woolen mill and for Medical Care Development.

Betty enjoyed planting in her beautiful gardens and spending time with her friends and family. She spent every weekend with her grandsons, whom she loved so deeply. She was known for her strength, kind soul and her constant love.

She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Shaw and her loved one, Gabe Steward, and Jessica Shaw; two grandsons, Spencer K. Shaw and Connor W. Dore; sisters Irene Ketchum, Cindy Hjort and Linda Adam; brother James Langley; nieces Jodi Taylor and her husband, Dan, and Lisa Adams; nephews Shane Hjort and James Ketchum; aunt Edna Greenleaf; several other relatives and special friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; many aunts and uncles; and a brother, Ronald Langley.

She will be in our hearts forever.

She played a different role in our lives, no matter what the love we had for her as one, ask anyone and they'll tell you the same, she brought us joy when we had pain, the strength and love of one woman held all of us together even more now than ever. She isn't physically here, but we still feel her near in every step we take and every move we make, what she's given to us no one can ever take.

A celebration of her life for her close friends and immediate family will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at 312 Solon Road, North Anson. Interment will be held at Southside Cemetery in the spring.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Somerset Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976.

Arrangements are entrusted to Smart & Edwards Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

Jess & Connor,

My heart once again goes out to you; so many losses at such a young age. I have watched you and your strength and you have been amazing (even though you don't think so). Please remember both your mom and Chad would want you to be happy. I am sure your mother is proud of you and thankful for everything you did, no regrets.

I am there if you need me. With lots of love and prayers for you to find strength to endure.

My name is Todd Winship and I am the Operations Director for Catholic Charities Maine. I have had the pleasure to have both Jessica and Mandy work for me. I know their mother (Betty) gave these two women the strength, love and caring spirit that any mother would cherish forever. I am sorry about your loss and my thoughts go out to the entire Shaw family. Also, a special "I am thinking of" to my friend Connor. Sincerely, Todd

To Mandy and Jess, No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.
I will always keep Betty's memories close to my heart, including all the many parent/adult conversations we had when you children were growing up. The fond memories of Holidays, birthdays, camp, and even walking together at the Skowhegan State Fair were the best. I can honestly say that she meant so very much to me and I know she thought the same of me as her friend. She fed and cared for my children and I did the same for her. We had each other and lots in common at one time in our lives. I cannot count the cups of coffee we had together! The closeness and friendship we shared, nobody can take from me. I have missed her and always will.

Grammy, I remember all the times you took me to the playground and when we went for walks, you let me ride my bike. You gave me lots of hugs to show me love. You were a wonderful Grammy to me. I love you so much. I will never forget you even when I'm grown up. goodbye xoxo

I could not ask for a better mother. I hope you know that we were always here for you and willing to fight forever with you and for you. You went above and beyond to make your two daughters the best they could be and you did that all on your own. We thank you beyond words for the mother that you was. You were the greatest grandmother to our sons and beyond great as a mother to us. We miss you and will always be a part of you. We will carry you with us forever. We will never forget the things that were important to you. You could not have been loved any more. We Love You mom!
