Jeff, George, Greg and John,
Words on paper can't portray the depth of love that Marlene had (and still has) for her family. I was lucky enough to have witnessed this love and commitment she showed. I feel I'm a better wife, mother and friend for having known her for the last five years. Though your sadness will never truly end, find happiness in remembering the good times with her, and know that she is with each of you still, and her love will live on. Deb Gagnon

John and family,

Arriving in Waterville 12 years ago from San Diego, Marlene was one of the first persons to greet us and guide us through the intricacies of the local youth hockey and baseball programs. I remember her sewing all the youth hockey leggings for each and every player and at the end of every season she did all the necessary jersey repairs. As we got to know her, we would discover that this was just one of many things she did quietly to support youth programs in the area. It was Marlene that trained us to fill her shoes in the youth hockey program. Little did we parents know that it would take several volunteers to fill all the jobs she silently oversaw so that all kids in the area could play. Her enthusiasm for every child on the baseball field and in the ice rink was second only to her pride of and for John.

Your Mom made a difference in the lives of hundreds of youth sports players in this area. She will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have known her. Our thoughts are with all of you as you mourn the passing of this wonderful woman.

Our family was so sad to hear about Marlene's passing. I spent many, many hours at the hockey rink with Marlene where we shared many great moments. She was so passionate, not only about hockey, but in her caring for and tireless work on behalf of youth in the Waterville area. She was a person that you could count on to follow through on every commitment that she made. My heart goes out to her family, including her beloved son John who we are all fond of in our household. She was truly one of a kind. We are all thinking of you. - Michele and Dave Prince, Joel and Ben Allen

Many of us parents from the past and present Waterville Hockey community learned of Marlene's passing at the State Championship game on Saturday. She was remembered in conversations as a very dedicated mother to her children and their activities, especially in the youth hockey and high school hockey programs. Marlene was a hard-working volunteer giving it her all for her sons as well as everyone else's children. She was always there to take over the concession stand at Colby when a youth hockey parent didn't show up for their shift ... she manned that stand a lot! And even though her sons have graduated, I know she was smiling as the buzzer ended the Waterville - St. Dom's State Championship Class A high school hockey game with her team on top.

To Marlene's family--We are so sorry for your loss. Marlene was one of the most pleasant and straight forward people that we have ever, ever met. She was genuine and we always knew, without a doubt that when she smiled at us and said, "hello" ... it was for real. (No pretenses.) We did not know Marlene from hockey boosters...so, the hockey boosters must have been just a 'drop in the bucket.' We knew her from her countless, countless hours with baseball and strings boosters. Her life was her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Linda, Brian, Nick, Jeff, & Kate Dutil
