Estelle Mitzi Nyberg

HIGHLAND PLANTATION -- Estelle Mitzi Nyberg, 92, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation & Living Center in Madison.

She was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Detroit, the daughter of Rudy and Anna (Baich) Shaponsky.

Mitzi lived in the Kingfield and Highland area since the late 1940s. She and her husband Larry owned and operated the Kingfield House in Kingfield for several years before purchasing the Highland Lodge in Highland Plantation. They also owned and operated Driftwood Arts from 1968 to 1974.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, making wine, playing piano and painting. To those who knew her, Mitzi was an inspiration on how to live life to the fullest. She was very proud that she completed her high school education and received her diploma from Carrabec High School in 1984.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Larry" Nyberg; and her sisters, Zora Warner, Millie Vijivou, and Violet Wood.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 3 and 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. in Madison.

A graveside service will take place later in the spring at the Lexington Flats Cemetery in Lexington Township.
