Patricia Swift Obituary

PITTSFIELD -- Patricia I. Swift, 67, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 9, 2009, at Sebasticook Hospital in Pittsfield.

She was born in Joplin, Mo., on Jan. 29, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Juanita (Marshall) Crossley. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1960 and attended Pittsburgh State Teachers College.

Pat was employed for several years by the United States Post Office in Kansas City, working as a mail carrier. She was married to Charles A. Swift, and when he retired, they moved to Pittsfield and she became a substitute teacher at Warsaw Middle School.

She was an amazing artist. She loved doing arts and crafts and teaching others embroidery. She enjoyed shopping and liked to gamble. She never met a stranger for all were her friends. She was very independent and loved the students and staff at school for they were her extended family. She was a member of the Pittsfield Garden Club and volunteered for the Egg Festival. She also worked part time at the Pittsfield Town Office working during the elections. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her sister, Carolyne Kalcevic and her husband, Rudy, of Derby, Kan.; a nephew, Rudy Kalcevic Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Virginia Beach, Va.; her nieces, Karla Edgett of Derby and Jonna Kalcevic of Wichita, Kan.; several great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece, and many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Swift, in 2008.

A celebration of Pat's life will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, March 16, at the Warsaw Middle School, in the cafeteria, located at 167 School St. in Pittsfield. There will be a time of gathering and refreshment following the service.

Should friends desire, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Children's Benefit Fund, c/o Warsaw Middle School, 167 School St., Pittsfield, ME 04967, in Patricia's memory.

Pat was part of our Pittsfield Coffee Ladies. We have had great fun solving all of the problems of the world but mostly we have shared great laughter.

Also, Pat always seemed to be interested in other people, especially children and older people, and she was always quietly doing things for them. She helped several of us gather State Quarters for our grandchildren.

She showed great courage and determination during her illnesses.

We loved her and will miss her very much.
