William Tiffany Obituary

William H. Tiffany, 89 WESTBROOK -- William H. Tiffany, 89, of Longfellow Place and formerly of Lawn Avenue, Gorham died Feb. 25, 2009, at a local healthcare facility. He was born in Providence, R.I., the son of William H. and Ida May Brooks Tiffany and attended local schools in Rhode Island. In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theater of World War II. In 1944, he married the former Thelma A. Marshall of Portland. After leaving the Navy, he held several positions in Portland, mostly notably as organizer and manager of the Electronic Division of Commercial Distributors, a position that Bill held for more than 20 years. With continuing education, he earned a teacher's certificate to teach electronics in Portland and also obtained a Real Estate Broker's License. Upon retirement, he accepted a part-time job as handyman/ maintenance with the Baxter Library and Museum in Gorham, a position that he held for over 15 years. Bill was a country music performer with his guitar and blue yodel before and long after WWII. He was an ardent golfer and loyal Red Sox fan since the early 1930s. Surviving besides his wife, Thelma M. Tiffany of Westbrook; are two sons, William E. Tiffany and his wife Michele, and Robert H. Tiffany all of Gorham; one grandson, Matthew and his wife Linda; and two great-granddaughters, Lily and Nina all of Buxton. A graveside service and interment will be held in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland at a time to be announced in the spring. Arrangements by Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham William H. Tiffany
