Corille Bamford Obituary

'Chuck' Corille F. Bamford, 77 BUXTON -- 'Chuck' Corille F. Bamford, 77, of Sunset Cove, died on March 1, 2009, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after a long illness. Born in Portland on July 25, 1931, he was the son of Henry and Ruby H. (Cushing) Bamford. He was raised and educated in Portland and was a graduate of Portland High School, class of 1949. Chuck enlisted in the Navy, serving his country during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he attended Bentley College graduating from there in 1957. On April 25, 1953, Chuck married Beverly Conant, in Rockland. As a couple, they made their home in Portland where they raised their family together. Mr. Bamford was employed at Central Maine Power Company in Portland for 34 years, retiring from there in June of 1992. In 34 years of service, Chuck never missed a day of work. After retirement, he remained active as a member and past president of the Old Timers Club, a group comprised of CMP retirees. He was a member of the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, in Gorham. Chuck was involved in numerous organizations over the years including the USTA (Maine Harness Association) and served as an associate and presiding judge at harness racing tracks across Maine and New Hampshire. He was a member of the Western Maine Board Approved Basketball Officials, officiating over high school and college games. During his 25 year involvement with the board, he held positions including president, treasurer and secretary, and was awarded a life time membership for his service. He was a member and Past Master of the Deering Lodge of Masons #183 AF & AM, in Portland, a member and Past Patron of the Deering Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite and the Kora Temple Shrine. Chuck was also a long time member and past president of the Woodford Men's Club in Portland. Chuck was diagnosed with diabetes shortly after he retired and battled the disease for some 17 years. He spent the last year of his life as a resident of Falmouth by the Sea. The family would like to thank the staff for the kind and compassionate care during his time there. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beverly (Conant) Bamford of Buxton; two daughters, Deborah Marie Merrill and her husband Scott of Westbrook, and Rhonda Ann Alafat and her husband Richard of Gorham; two sisters, Hope Quatrano of Standish, and Delores D'Amadio, of Pennsylvania; and two grandsons, Christopher and Jeremy Merrill. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Rd., Gorham. A memorial service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009. The Rev. Linwood Arnold will officiate. Arrangements are by the Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.
