John Casey Obituary

John 'Ted 'Casey, 92 PORTLAND -- Ted Casey, 92, a lifelong resident of Portland, passed away Monday evening March 2, 2009. Ted was born in Portland on Nov. 21, 1916, to George Sr. and Amelia Casey, the youngest of six children. He attended Portland schools in the Riverton area and lived most of his adult life in Stroudwater. He served in the Navy during WWII, making seven trips across the Atlantic and serving on all fronts. Following his discharge from the service, he returned to his Portland home to support and care for his widowed mother. Ted was a hard and industrious worker, spending most of his working years with Blue Rock Industries. Ted married his beloved wife Patricia Young in 1961; they spent 48 wonderful years together. Shortly after their marriage, they built a camp on Thomas Pond where they spent many memorable summers. Ted was a sociable and kind man who loved to visit with friends and family. He was always ready with a joke and a big welcoming smile. He enjoyed many outdoor activities: hiking, skiing, swimming, golfing, hunting, and camping. In later years, he enjoyed snowmobiling where he met his close friends the Detwilers. He also was a long-standing member of the Woodfords Club where he enjoyed the company of many friends. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Pat Casey; many nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. He was grateful for care received from the VNA Hospice and his special volunteer friend, Pat Lyons. At Ted's request, there will be no funeral services. Condolences may be sent in care of: Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine 04103 Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home & Cremation Service 775-3763

Auntie Pat,
"Uncle Ted" was such an optimistic and positive person. Children can always sense when an adult truely enjoys them and that was how I always felt about "Uncle Ted". It was obvious that he truely enjoyed children and I have so many fond memories as a child of both you and Ted at Thomas Pond. I can still see Uncle Ted floating on the pond in an inner tube with "Kimmy sitting on top of him. As a child, I just thought he was the best! The love both you and Ted had for animals influenced my life greatly. I will always remember Peewee and the story of how Ted found her as a small kitten on a job site and brought her home to you snuggled in his jacket... and then wonderful "Kimmy" ....and, as you know, I have named one of my dogs "Kimmy" in honor of your "Kimmy".
You always seemed to have so much fun together and truely love and respected each other. That always warmed my heart. I love you both.

Pat and Family,
Your written obituary has done well to capture the wonderful man that we all knew as Ted. I am so thankful that I was able to develop a close relationship with Ted and Pat, and participate in that journey toward a new life. Pat, I know that you know that he is now in a wonderful new phase of his life, where he is still loving and watching over you. My official duties as Ted's hospice volunteer are now finished, but my offerings as a friend to you are not. The best way that I can honor Ted is to continue to be a friend to you as you go through the next tough days, weeks, and months.

With Prayers of Thanksgiving for his life ---
With Prayers of comfort for you --

Love,
Pat
