Katherine Myers Obituary

Katherine 'Kay' Myers, 76 YARMOUTH -- Katherine Jean Myers, 76, of Yarmouth died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Brentwood Rehabilitation Center in Yarmouth after a short illness. She was born on April 24, 1932, in Hatfield, Mass., the only child of Mary J. (Pitchko) and Harry C. O'Neal. She graduated from Smith Academy in Hatfield and went on to work as a secretary in the Personnel Department of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and at the UMass Medical School in Worcester. On Aug. 19, 1950, Kay married George J. Myers in Hatfield and together they raised their two daughters in Florence, Mass. In 1974, Kay and George moved to Ogunquit to become owners of the Ogunquit Innkeepers Motel. In 1986, they retired and moved to Yarmouth to be closer to family. Kay was involved in the Northampton, Mass. League of Women Voters, the U.S. Census, Girl Scouts and the Jaycees. Upon retiring, Kay volunteered with the Yarmouth Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, genealogy and was a lifelong lover of collies. She will be remembered as a hard working do-it-yourselfer who was self sacrificing and always considerate of others. Kay is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Myers of Yarmouth; her daughter, Deborah Godowsky and her husband Barry of Yarmouth, her daughter, Cynthia Hardy and her husband Malcolm of St. Thomas, Va.; her granddaughter, Kathryn Ouellette and her husband Evan of Massachusetts and her grandson David Godowsky, also of Massachusetts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main St., Yarmouth. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay's memory to: Animal Refuge League P.O. Aunt Kay was a truely special woman and I am a better person for having been her niece. I enjoyed my visit with them in Ogunquit as a child but it is my most recent memories that are the sweetest....sitting around the kitchen table with sandwiches and the family geneology cards....learning all about "my roots." I will forever hold those memories dear and smile when I think of Aunt Kay's wonderful laugh.

I wish Uncle George, Cindy and Debbie and their families peace during this difficult time and thank them for sharing their wonderful Mother with me.

Much love,

Lyra

Dear Uncle George, Cindy and Debbie, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins,
Another colorful thread in the Myers tapestry is gone. Although we didn't talk to each other often, it was always comforting to know she was there....and still is, just on a different plane. I'm hoping she, Hy and Margaret are having some fun; cocktails and reminicing about the good old days. Grandpa is keeping everyone in line.....love, Mary, Chuck, Julia and Christian
