Kathlyn Fyles Obituary

Kathlyn L. 'Kay' Fyles SOUTH PORTLAND -- Kathlyn L. 'Kay' Fyles, of South Portland, went to be with Jesus on Feb. 26, 2009, at the South Portland Nursing Home. Kay was born in West Charleston, Vt. in 1911, the daughter of Edgar and Eva Skinner. She attended St. Johnsbury Academy. There, she taught ballet and tap. In 1941 Kay and her family came to Portland so her father could work at the shipyard. Kay worked for Owen Moore for a few years and later retired from Sears Roebuck after 25 years. During that time she raised a daughter with the help of her parents. She liked dancing, playing cards, bowling, gardening and painting. Kay's special interest was caring for her pet dogs. Kay is survived by a daughter, Joanne (Jody) Fyles of South Portland; and her two dogs, Lacey and Sara; two nieces, Nancy Billings and her family of Martha's Vineyard, Mass., and Shirley Cooledge and family of Naples, Fla. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., in Portland.
