Shirley E. Cunningham

Shirley E. Cunningham, 76 PORTLAND -- Shirley E. Cunningham, 76, of State Street, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Shirley was born in Portland on Aug. 9, 1932, the daughter of William and Blanche Hauver Lamoin and was educated in Portland schools. She enjoyed the ocean, walking on the beach, cooking, knitting and playing tennis with her late husband. Her greatest enjoyment was the time spent with her family at family gatherings and she always mystified her family for being able to remember birthdays and buying gifts for her large family. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Ernest Cunningham Jr., who died in 2007. She is survived by one brother, Lloyd Lamoin of Kennebunk, one sister, Delores Stetson of Portland; three sons, Brian, David and Henry Cunningham, seven daughters, Shirley, Katherine, Lucille, Linda, Carol, Janice and Jessica; plus many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the chapel of Independent Death Care, at 471 Deering Ave., from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel with interment in Brooklawn Memorial Park.
