Joseph Barlow Obituary

Joseph F. Barlow, 77 aka Wilson Barlow OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Joseph F. Barlow, 77, of Glenwood Lane died on Dec. 28, 2008, at the Maine Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada on Sept. 10, 1931, the son of John and Catherine Barlow. He was very proud of his Indian heritage background and had a strong faith in God through his Catholic religion, always wearing his rosaries. Joe retired in 1992, because of ill health, from the University of Southern Maine where he had worked over 20 years in the maintenance department. He enjoyed watching wresting and boxing and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was always a hard worker and never gave up on anything even during the difficulties of his illness. He always treated others the way he wanted to be treated, respected authority and led by example. He raised his step children as if they were his own children. He was the only father that they knew. He instilled these values upon his children, who continue to pass these traits down to their own children. He is survived by his wife Sherri; one son, David Clifford, and one daughter, Christeen Hansen. Also surviving are two brothers, Archie and Wilford Barlow, three sisters, Annie Barlow, Rose Nevans and Maryann Brooks; three sister in-laws, and three brother in-laws; one niece, Gloria and her three children, several nieces and nephews including Chief Barlow of Indian Island, New Brunswick, Canada, and William, also known as Yellow Blanket.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 9, at 11 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. The family wishes to thank Casco Bay Dialysis, the Springbrook Nursing Care, the rehabilitation unit at Brentwood Manor, Maine Medical Center and Ambulance Medical Response of South Portland for all of the love and care given over the years. Joseph F. Barlow
