James McNutt Obituary

James Alden McNutt, 60 DEDHAM -- James Alden McNutt, 60, died suddenly Sunday morning, March 1, 2009, at his home in Dedham. Jim was born in Houlton on Sept. 17, 1948, the second child and number one son of Harold and Phylliss Hardy McNutt. He graduated from Houlton High School's class of 1966. Jim loved music, people and life. He was a social animal with lots of friends, and could often be found in the midst of a party, telling jokes or some highly implausible story. When not busy socializing, Jim enjoyed landscaping and gardening at his riverside homestead, and dabbling in various small-business enterprises. A rebel by nature, Jim lived his life with a devil-may-care attitude and generally had one or two get-rich schemes to offer anyone who would listen. Jim's journey was filled with great love and deep sorrow, impossible dreams and bitter hardship, but never with regret. His family and friends will miss his sly smirk, mischievous eyes and generous heart. He is unforgettable. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his son, Theron James McNutt; and his nephew, Ryan Douglas McNutt. He is survived by his son, Jesse James Langley of Levant; his granddaughter Hailee, his grandson Ethin; his former wives, Janice Peabody of Nickerson Lake and Cathie Sinclair of Glenburn; and his seven siblings, Tana of Drews Lake, Doug of Drews Lake, Ted of Linneus, Jerry of Windham, Joni of South Portland, Mark of Tumacacori, Ariz., and Bret of Hampden. He is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Lori, Patty, Michelle, Pam and Kim; 13 nieces and nephews, Dennis, Gretel, Angie, Stacey, Kirsten, Jeremy, Karri, Heath, Dan, Josh, Sam, Lucas and Sierra, and their spouses/partners; as well as 11 great-nieces and nephews, Daniel, Phoenix, Elyjah, Ella, Sophia, Pano, Lauren, Cassidy, Emma, Bella and Connor. A memorial service will be held for Jim on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at the Dunn Funeral Home at 11 Park St., Houlton, followed by a farewell gathering at Tall Timber Lodge, North Shore, Drews Lake. In lieu of flowers, Jim's family requests that donations be made in his name to: Houlton Humane Society Care of Dunn Funeral Home 11 Park St. Houlton, Maine 04730 James Alden McNutt

There is a star, it was OUR star. And we promised that no matter how much time had passed, or how far apart we were, or where life took us, we could look at that star and know the other was looking too. I never stopped looking at that star-and I never will. Love ya Jim, can't wait to be with you again.

Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts. Glen, your poem is very powerful--thank you so very much for sharing it.

I am making copies of the slideshow that we played at Jim's service. If anyone would like a copy, please e-mail me with your address and I will get one to you--let me know if you prefer a CD for a computer or a DVD for a player or both!

Jim, I love you and miss you terribly.

All my love, all the time,

Wow, where to begin? The night I heard that Jim passed away, I immediately put in a tune...Me and My Uncle. Of course, Jim was more than an Uncle to most, including me. He bought me my first bike--The Silver Fox. He took me on my first Go-kart ride. He also played me the first rock-n-roll song. I used to love spending my summers at the lake, listening to music, and talking into the night. I am an avid music lover and every single thing I know about music is a result of the time I spent with Jim. Jim always had a way of making me feel special when I was around as a kid. I used to brag to everyone that I was allowed to run the controls in the music room!

I don't have many regrets, but not being able to be at Jim's funeral is one of them. I thought of many of you and said good bye in my own way, but if I wasn't in Florida now; I would have been there. I have thought of Jim just about every day for years as there isn't a CD or song that plays on the radio that doesn't bring back a memory. From Jerry Garcia himself:

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
I love my uncle, God rest his soul Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, I grabbed that gold

Life Well Lived

Did you do enough of what you wanted to do,
To be satisfied at what you left undone?
The convalescent home,
the wheelchair,
and the cane?
Did you make yourself happy enough
To cancel all the sorrow and heartaches that you left,
or were there some regrets?
If there were, you never let it show.
You did it all on the first take,
There were no reruns.
Only yesterday's ashes.

Jim, brothers, sisters, Jesse, family, and friends.
I love you all dearly. We had a powerful wake, with an abundance of energy, The stories that were shared, made it almost seem as if he was there. Still, a void remains that can not be filled. Your spirit touches each and every one of us now, as you did in life. Miss and love you brother. My thanks to each and all for being there with words, hugs, and tears.

Hey Jim!
I'm sure your enjoying the real life now! I will never forget how inviting you were to us and the kids. How they loved to play with those lincoln logs. Every time we drove by, Johnny would say "Can we go see McNutt?" I know Johnny will miss you dearly. As will we!
I miss you saying " How ya doin' Darlin',Your lookin good!" But when i drive by your house now,its dark with no life but it still reminds me of every good memory we've had there! We will hold on to those memories till the day we die!
Love you man,

Nancy and I were sorry to hear the news of Jim's passing. We have such fond memories of the McNutt Clan at the Lake. Jim was always there for us if we needed a tow or a Case of Bud or a loaf of bread. He use to love to come out to the Cabin in Hodgdon and play all my records. If I hear a Greatful Dead song, I think of P - Jim! We will miss him until we join him. God bless all the McNutts and all his friends. There were many!!!

Our Good Friend Jim

The value of your friendship
Measured not in wealth or fame
But in images brought to mind
When thoughts evoke your name.

Yours brings to mind a vision
Of a lazy summer day,
Filled with music, wit, and humor
What else can I say?

Your rebel loving spirit
Never seemed to fade.
And your love of life and people
Were charms that with you stayed.

Your friendship was a treasure
Shared by more than just a few
And each life is now more splendid
By the gift of knowing you.

We love ya Jim!
