Walter G. Lovely

Walter G. Lovely, 89 AMES, Iowa -- Walter G. Lovely, 89, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at Green Hills Health Care Center. He was born in Fort Fairfield, Aug. 19, 1919, the son of Sherman and Queenie (Canning) Lovely. Walter lived in Fort Fairfield, Portland and Bangor, Silver Springs, Md., and has been a resident of Ames, Iowa since 1950. He received his B.S. from the University of Maine and did graduate work at ISU. He worked as an Ag Engineer at ISU, retiring in 1988, was a Sgt. in USMC and a member of the 1st Marine Div. in WWII. Walter married Alma Marie Wasson on Aug. 16, 1947, in Bangor. He was a member of Kiwaniis Noon Club, Bethesda Lutheran Church, American Legion, AARP, ISU Retirees, NARFE, ASAE, American Agricultural Society, ESA and USSA. He is survived by five children,: Walter G. (Mary Lu) Lovely Jr. of Eden Prairie, Minn., Stephen N. (Jo) Lovely of St. Joseph, Mo., Martha E. (Scott) Lilly of Camarillo, Calif., Patricia A. Seeger of Columbus, Ohio, Robert A. (Kim) Lovely of Echo, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth, Lillace and Thelma , and three brothers, Luther, Thurber and Eugene. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Marie in 1997; son, Michael W. Lovely in 2002; two sisters, Marjorie and Anna, and two brothers, Arbor and John. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, at Bethesda Lutheran Church (Iowa), with Pastor Joel Wight-Hoogheem officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery, Iowa.
