Jean Adler Obituary

Jean Eleanor Adler, 81 PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Jean Eleanor Adler, 81, died on Feb. 21, 2009, in Port Charlotte, Fla., after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Boston, Mass., April 29, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Walker) Spears and resided for many years in Cumberland, before retiring to Walpole and Port Charlotte, Fla. Jean was married to Robert S. Adler for 56 years. They have three children, Stephen, Kenneth and Paul. Jean graduated from Arlington, Mass. High School in 1945 and attended Fisher College of Business in Boston where she earned an associate degree. She worked for the County of Middlesex, Mass. as a court stenographer from 1947- 1953 where she met her future husband and love of her life, Bob. Jean and Bob married on Dec. 27, 1952, started their family in 1953 and bought their first home in Littleton, Mass. in 1955. They moved to Cumberland in 1969 where Jean became very involved as a volunteer for the Pineland Hospital in Pownal, eventually becoming the President of the volunteer organization. Jean later volunteered as a special education aid at Greely High School in her home town of Cumberland and also worked for Ward Brothers clothing store at the Maine Mall before Jean and Bob moved to Walpole in 1987. Jean volunteered at the Bristol School Dept., worked as a receptionist for the Univ. of Maine Darling Research Center and worked at Reny's Retail store during their years in Walpole. In 1994 Jean and Bob bought a home in Florida where they wintered and spent summers in Maine. Jean was an outgoing and active person but her real joy in life was spending time with her husband and raising her three sons. Jean's fun loving personality touched everyone she came in contact with and she developed an extended family consisting of many of her sons' friends and their families. She will be missed by everyone. She is survived by her sons, Stephen Robert Adler of Alna, Kenneth William Adler and his wife Elizabeth Adler of Erroll, N.H. and Brunswick, Paul Sherman Adler and his wife Jessamy Adler of Scarborough; and her brother Joseph Spears of Venice, Fla. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Adler; and her sister, Mary Lou (Spears) Goodwin. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A reception will follow at the Royal River Grillhouse in Yarmouth. The Adler family has created a memorial of Jean's life and it is available at www.mem.com. Please visit Jean's memorial and share your condolences, memories and wishes with the Adler family.
