Virginia Margaret Davis Keniston

Virginia Keniston Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) Margaret Davis Keniston, 86 BETHEL -- Virginia (Ginny) Margaret Davis Keniston, 86, of Bethel, died peacefully Tuesday, March 10, 2009, surrounded by family after suffering a stroke on Sunday. She was born Nov. 24, 1922, to Elsie and Earl Davis in Bethel. She graduated from Gould Academy and the Gorham Normal School, after which she taught school before starting a family. She was an active woman who shared her life with many people in many ways. She ran a pre school and swap shop in the early years. She continued to work in the school and town libraries for many years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Cross Country Quilters, Bethel Historical Society and the Red Hat Society just to name a few of her endeavors. Her column in the Bethel Citizen brought neighborhood news for many years. Her greatest joy was time spent sharing her love with family. Family gatherings at home and the family's Songo camp were a common occurrence. Ginny and her husband Bob had many adventures together in their 64 years of marriage. Alaska, Quebec and Labrador were only a few of their fishing grounds, (she always caught the biggest fish). Fall was spent at Fryeburg Fair as salesman for Bob's wood turnings and Saturday nights were always spent dancing where they were well known for their smooth style and their many dancing buddies. She is survived by her husband Robert; brother Jerry Davis and wife Diana; sister-in-law Amy Davis and her children Martha Bangs and husband Glenn, Rachel Mcknight and husband Ted, David Keniston and wife Jodi, Peter Keniston and wife Stacey, and son-in-law Lennie Shaw. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Elsie Davis; her brother Stanley Davis; and her daughter Rebecca Shaw. Memorial services will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 10 a.m. Arrangements by Greenleaf Funeral Home, 37 Vernon St., Bethel. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.andrewsgreenleaf.com. Memorials in Ginny's memory are requested to: The Bethel United Methodist Church Main Street Bethel, Maine 04217

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. I have many fond memories of Girl Scouts and sleepovers, greetings shared by neighbors as I walked down the street and Ginny's helpful, caring ways. She will be missed.

We are so sorry to hear about Ginny. She and Bob were just at my mom's 90th Birthday and my mom and dad's 68th wedding anniversary party this past Saturday afternoon. Ginny was talking about how she and Bob were going dancing. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the whole family. I'm really sorry that we will not be able to make it to her services. Martha & Family,
Was so saddened to hear of your loss. I have many pleasant memories of your Mom, Girl Scouts and many other activities all us girls were involved in back in the 50's. Funny memories of painting the inside of milk weed pods gold and silver for the holidays. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

We were so sorry to hear about your mothers passing, Peter. It was just a short time ago that you were visiting with us for Kurt's mother.

Kurt remembers when your mom and his mom were den mother's for cub scouts and what a fine job they did in helping you both earn merit badges.

These times are never easy and we wish you and your family peace in knowing that she had such a full and happy life with her wonderful family.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with you all,
