Oliver King Obituary

Oliver M. King Jr., 75 PARSONSFIELD -- Oliver M. King Jr., 75, also known as 'Ollie' and 'Dowy,' died on March 10, 2009, at his daughter's home in Middleton, N.H., with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Wolfeboro, N.H. on March 5, 1934, the son of Oliver and Hilda Fernald King. The family moved to Parsonsfield when he was very young. He attended local schools and has lived in the Kezar Falls area ever since. He joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War, serving as a gunnar's mate on the 1st USS APA 193 Destroyer DE 341. He returned home to Parsonsfield after proudly serving his country. Oliver was a hard worker, and worked at Keddy Manufacturing Co. in South Windham from 1956 to 1961. He worked at Beal's Furniture in East Baldwin from 1961 to 1971. He then worked at Parker Nichols Co. in Portland until his retirement in 1994. After retiring, he married his 2nd wife, Bernice Tibbetts Lessard in 1995. Together, they made various wood crafts for holidays and all seasons. They traveled to different states in their R.V., and spent winters in Florida. He was a long time member of the West Day Post American Legion in Kezar Falls. Some of his fondest memories include the special times spent with his family and friends, playing their favorite card game 'Skip-Bo,' and going fishing with his great-grandson catching 'the big one' Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife Bernice Lessard King; and his brother, John 'Bill' King. Surviving are three daughters, Joan Dagnino of Nevada, Linda Hanchett and her husband Larry of Middleton, N.H., and Janet Rousseau of Middleton, one son, Maurice 'Butch' King of Waterville; two brothers, Harry King of Freeport, and Paul King of Webster, Fla.; one sister, Sarah Branham of Westfield, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Colbath and Jane Dore, both of N.H.; four grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas Hanchett, Cory Mattocks, and Josh St. Hillaire, all of Middleton, N.H., one granddaughter, Lisa Bloomenthal of Portland; five great-grandchildren, Robert Hanchett, Megan McFarland, Devyn Hanchett, Matthew Hanchett and Ethan Hanchett; also, a very special friend, Geneva Jordan of Cornish. Oliver's family want to express special thanks to SCC Hospice staff in Wolfeboro and to Dr. Badman and staff in Wakefield. A heartfelt thanks to his daily caregivers, Linda Dutra R.N., Kathy Leeming R.N., Sigrid Cameron S.W., Robin Eastman L.N.A, and Linda Mansfield L.N.A. You always brought a smile and a gleam in his eye sharing special memories and moments with him. There will be a hour of visitation on Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Calvary Bible Church, 348 South Hiram Rd., South Hiram. A funeral service will directly follow the visitation at 3 p.m. at the church. Pastor Dan Ahern will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the spring in Kezar Falls.
