Jean Brown Obituary

Jean Louise Brown, 62 SCARBOROUGH -- Jean Brown died unexpectedly on March 11, 2009, at her home in Scarborough. She was born in Portland on Oct. 24, 1946. She attended Portland schools and lived in Gorham with her husband Todd for most of her adult life. She loved meeting new people and working with the public. Wherever she worked, she made friends and enjoyed serving regular customers who looked forward to seeing her smiling face. Most recently she was employed by the Christmas Tree Shop in Scarborough. Her church family was also very important to her and her love of the Lord shone through her enthusiasm for Sunday morning worship and other church activities. She especially enjoyed game night and book studies at the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church where she will be sadly missed. Jean was predeceased by her husband Todd who passed away June 8, 2008. She is survived by her sister Meredith Rowe of Berlin, N.H., brothers Roy Remington of Raymond, N.H., and Kenneth Remington of Windham; her sister-in-law Linda Brown, with whom she lived, and brother-in-law Greg Brown of Scarborough; nephews Jon Brown, his wife Stephanie and son Ethan; Jeff Brown and daughter Alexis; and niece Jessica Gray, her husband Alan and daughter Tiffany. Jean also leaves sister-in-law Nancy and her companion Ann Marie Clukey; and nephews Christopher Clukey, his wife Carol and their children Nathan, Virginia, Peter and Sandra; Stephen and his wife Gina; and Bryan Clukey. A memorial service will be held at the Thornton Heights United Methodist Church in South Portland on Tuesday, March 17. A half-hour visiting time will precede the 2 p.m. service. Arrangements made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. I was shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop today and could see the sadness in her co-workers. One of them shared with me why everyone was down. It was very touching and showed how much she meant to them. May she rest in peace and enjoy God's promise of eternal life.
